1

Pour 1 tablespoon olive oil into a saute pan and turn the burner to medium to high heat.

2

Add 1 pound of ground beef and break it up into small pieces with a flat bottom spatula. Cook for five minutes or until almost all brown.

3

Add half a chopped white onion and stir in, cooking for 1 minute.

4

Add 8 oz of chopped mushrooms and cook for about three to five minutes until tender.

5

Add 1/2 tablespoon of dried basil and 1/2 tablespoon of dried oregano, mixing it all together and cooking for 1 minute.

6

Add one 14.5 oz can of diced tomatoes and a 15 oz can of tomato sauce, mixing well.

7

Add 1 teaspoon of garlic powder and 1/4 cup of water to each can to get all the tomatoes and sauce out.

8

Add the tip of a celery stalk with leaves, 1 bay leaf, and 2 sugar cubes.

9

Add another 1/2 cup of water and a dash of pepper, mixing everything in and bringing it to a simmer over medium heat.

10

Once it starts to simmer, cover with a lid but keep it cracked open to the side and cook for about five to ten minutes.

11

Remove the celery stalk and bay leaf after simmering, mix again, and taste to adjust seasoning with a dash of salt and black pepper.
