Add tempeh to the skillet and cook until golden brown, about 4-5 minutes per side.
Remove tempeh from skillet and let cool slightly.

Toast whole grain bread until golden brown.
Spread vegan mayonnaise on one side of each slice of bread.
Layer lettuce on one slice of bread, followed by slices of tomato and avocado.
Add the cooked tempeh on top of the vegetables.
Sprinkle with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder.
Top with the other slice of bread, mayonnaise side down.
Cut sandwich in half and serve immediately.
