Today, it can be found in various forms across Southeast Asia, reflecting the region's love for durian and its versatility in desserts.

Soak 2 cups of glutinous rice overnight or for at least 3 hours.
Drain the soaked rice using a metal strainer.
Transfer the glutinous rice into a tray.
Add 1 cup of coconut milk and a pinch of salt to the rice, along with a little water.
Place pandan leaves on top of the rice.
Turn on the heat to low medium-high and steam the glutinous rice for about 30 minutes until cooked.
Remove the durian flesh from the seed using a small knife.
Add 1 cup of coconut milk and all the durians into a blender.
Check if the glutinous rice is cooked using a fork.
Remove the pandan leaves from the rice.
Transfer the durian mixture into a bowl and add yellow food coloring, sugar, 2 tablespoons of glutinous rice, and 2 tablespoons of tapioca starch.
Whisk until smooth and ensure there are no lumps.
Pour the custard over the rice layer and spread it out evenly.
Steam the custard for about 30 minutes until cooked.
