Originating from Laos, Larb has become a beloved dish in Thailand, often enjoyed as a spicy salad. Traditionally made with minced meat, it reflects the region's love for fresh herbs and bold flavors. Larb is often served at gatherings, symbolizing friendship and hospitality. Today, variations can be found globally, adapting to local tastes while retaining its essence.

Soy sauce provides umami flavor while reducing sodium.

💰Cheaper: ground pork
Ground turkey is leaner, while ground pork is often less expensive.
Add 300g of minced beef into a saucepan and switch on the heat to medium.
Add 1/4 tsp of salt and stir to mix while cooking the beef.
Add 50 ml of water to prevent burning, if necessary.
Continue stirring until the beef is cooked and grey, about 2.5 minutes.
Drain some gravy from the pot and pour the beef into a mixing bowl; leave aside to cool for 5 to 10 minutes.
Cut the herbs: small stalk of cilantro, 2 stalks of spring onions, and leaves from 2 stems of sweet basil into small pieces and add to a bowl.
Slice 4-5 shallots thinly and add to the bowl with the herbs.
Press and roll a lime on the chopping board, then cut and squeeze to get about 2 tbsp of lime juice.
Add 1/2 tsp of fish sauce, 1 tsp of roasted ground chili, and 1 tbsp of lime juice to the cooled beef; mix well.
Taste and adjust seasoning with more fish sauce and roasted ground chili as needed.
Add the cut herbs and shallots to the beef mixture.
Add 2 tablespoons of roasted ground rice and stir to combine all ingredients.
Serve the beef salad on a serving plate with fresh vegetables like long beans, Chinese cabbage, basil leaves, cucumber, and chili.
