2 lbs chicken thighs
1 large onion minced
7 cloves garlic minced
1 large carrots - sliced
4 tbsp soy sauce
3 tbsp oyster sauce
2 tbsp brown sugar
1 tsp five spice powder
2 star anise
3-5 dried bay leaves
2 cups water
4 green onions, chopped
sesame seeds (for garnish)
1/2 salt, divided
1/2 pepper, divided
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tbsp cornstarch
2 tbsp water

Pat dry chicken with paper towel. Season with salt, pepper and garlic powder. Set aside.

In a small bowl combine cornstarch and water to make cornstarch slurry. Set aside.

In a pan, heat oil over medium high heat.

Sear the chicken both sides until browned. Then remove from pan. Remove the oil rendered leave 2 tbsp of oil for cooking.

In the same pan, add onion, cook until translucent.

Add garlic, cook until lightly brown.

Add the chicken, stir fry until well combined.

Add soy sauce and oyster sauce. Stir fry until all chicken are covered with sauce.

Add 2 cups of water, brown sugar, five spice, star anise and bay leaves. Mix until well combined.

Cover with lid then let it simmer for 20 or until the chicken is fork tender.

Add carrots. Cover with lid and let it simmer for 2 mins.

Add green beans. Cover with lid and let it simmer until vegetables are crisp tender.

Add cornstarch slurry. Stir until well combined. Let it simmer until sauce thickens.

Remove the star anise. Add chopped green onions and 1/4 tsp pepper. Give a stir.

Sprinkle with sesame seeds.

Serve and Enjoy with hot steamed rice.
