In another bowl, cream together butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
Stir in vanilla extract and milk until smooth.
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined.
Pour the batter over the pineapple and sugar layer in the pan.
Bake for 40-45 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
Remove from oven and let cool for 10 minutes.
Invert the cake onto a serving plate, allowing the pineapple to be on top.
Serve warm or at room temperature.
