Mix lukewarm milk with sugar and leaven in a bowl; let sit until frothy.
Combine flour and salt in a large mixing bowl.
Add the milk mixture, oil to the flour; mix until a dough forms.
Knead the dough until smooth.
Cover the dough with a cloth and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size.
Punch down the dough and divide it into equal pieces.
Flatten each piece and fill with your favourite jam or other fillings; fold the dough over to seal.
Shape into balls and place them in a steamer basket lined with parchment paper.
Cover and let rise for another 30 minutes.
Steam the buns over boiling water until fluffy.
