Preheat oven to 338°F (170°C).
Grease and flour cake pans.
Mix white flour and baking soda in a bowl.
In another bowl, beat eggs and sugar until pale and fluffy.
Gradually fold in the dry ingredients until just combined.
Pour batter into prepared pans and smooth the tops.
Bake in the middle of the oven for 40-50 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
Allow cakes to cool in pans for a few minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
Whip the cream until soft peaks form.
Fill the cake with custard cream and berries or fruit as desired.
Decorate the top with more whipped cream and fresh berries before serving.
