Instructions
- 1Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- 2Grease and flour two 8-inch round cake pans.
- 3In a bowl, sift together cake flour, baking powder, and salt.
- 4In a separate bowl, cream unsalted butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- 5Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
- 6Stir in vanilla extract.
- 7Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with milk until combined.
- 8Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans.
- 9Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- 10Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
- 11In a mixing bowl, combine mascarpone cheese, heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla bean paste.
- 12Whip the mixture until soft peaks form.
- 13Slice the cooled cakes in half horizontally to create four layers.
- 14Spread a layer of mascarpone mixture on the first layer, then top with sliced strawberries.
- 15Repeat with remaining layers, finishing with a layer of mascarpone on top.
- 16Decorate the top with additional strawberries and drizzle with lemon juice.
- 17Chill the cake in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour before serving.

- 5Stir in the boiling water until the batter is well combined (the batter will be thin).
- 6If using, fold in the chocolate chips.
- 7Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans.
- 8Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- 9Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then remove from pans and cool completely on a wire rack.
- 10Frost with your favorite chocolate frosting once cooled.
