Traditionally made with beef marinated in soy sauce and calamansi, it reflects the Filipino love for bold flavors and simple ingredients. Today, variations abound, with some adding bell peppers or using different cuts of meat, making it a beloved comfort food across the nation.

Prepare the marinade by mixing 1/4 tbsp ground pepper, 1/8 tsp salt, 2 tbsp sugar, and 4 tbsp soy sauce in a bowl.
Juice 15 pieces of calamansi and add the juice to the marinade mixture.
Cut 3/4 kilo of beef into thin slices and add to the marinade, ensuring all pieces are coated.
Let the beef marinate for 20 minutes.
In a pan, heat oil and add the marinated beef, cooking until browned.
Add 2 tbsp chopped onion and 1 tsp onion to the pan with the beef and sauté until the onions are translucent.
Serve the beef with fried onions on top.
