1 ripe red tomato, chopped

1 teaspoon ghee
1 teaspoon cumin seeds (jeera)
1/2 teaspoon asafoetida (hing)
turmeric powder to taste
salt to taste
3 cups water

Wash the rice and moong dal and set aside.

Heat 1 teaspoon of ghee in a pressure cooker.

Add 1 teaspoon of cumin seeds and 1/2 teaspoon of asafoetida to the ghee.

Once the cumin seeds have fried well, add the chopped tomato.

Next, add the chopped mixed vegetables (carrot, beans, and peas).

Add 3 cups of water and bring it to a boil.

Once the water is boiling, add turmeric powder and salt to taste.

Add the washed rice and dal to the pot and wait for it to come to a boil again.

Cover the pressure cooker and cook for one whistle, then switch it off.

Wait for the pressure to release from the cooker before opening it.

Once the pressure has released, check the khichdi; it should be steaming hot and soft.

Mash it lightly if desired before serving.
