The dish is a symbol of hospitality and celebration, reflecting the communal spirit of Samoan culture. Today, Pani PoPo has gained popularity beyond the islands, with variations appearing in Pacific Islander communities around the world.

Mix 2 packets of yeast with warm water and 2 1/2 cups of sugar in a bowl and let it sit for 10 minutes.
In a separate bowl, crack 2 eggs and add 1/4 cup of oil, mixing them together with a wooden spoon.
Combine the yeast mixture with the egg and oil mixture.
Add self-raising flour to the mixture, mixing with a wooden spoon and then using hands to knead the dough.
Coat a smaller tray with oil and coat the dough with oil to prevent sticking.
Preheat the oven to warm and let the dough rise.
Mix 2 cans of coconut cream with water and 2 cups of sugar in a bowl.
Once the dough has risen, knead it out and cut it in half for easier rolling.
Roll out the dough flat and coat with coconut cream, then roll it up and cut into pieces.
Place the pieces in the tray and bake in the oven at 180°C for 10 to 20 minutes until the sides are browned.
Pour coconut cream over the buns and continue to check and brush for 5 to 10 minutes until done.
