Prepare a greased 9x9 baking dish for the batter.
In a mixer, cream together 1/4 cup salted butter and 2/3 cup white sugar until light and fluffy.
In a separate bowl, whisk together 1 and 1/2 cups all-purpose flour and 1 teaspoon baking powder.
Add 1 egg, 1 teaspoon vanilla paste, and 1/2 cup whole milk to the creamed mixture, mixing until combined.
Gradually add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients, one spoonful at a time, mixing until thick and resembling buttercream frosting.
Spread the thick batter evenly into the greased 9x9 baking dish.
In a saucepan, combine 1 cup maple syrup, 1 cup brown sugar, 1 cup water, 1/4 cup butter, and 1/2 cup heavy whipping cream.
Bring the sauce mixture to a boil, stirring until combined.
Pour the hot sauce over the batter in the baking dish without stirring.
Bake in the preheated oven until the top is golden and a toothpick comes out clean, approximately 30-35 minutes.
Let cool slightly before serving.
