Cultural Context

Bombay Toast, also known as Bombay Sandwich, hails from the bustling streets of Mumbai. This beloved snack is a delightful combination of spiced mashed potatoes and fresh vegetables layered between slices of bread, often served with a tangy green chutney. It's a popular choice for breakfast or as a quick snack, embodying the vibrant flavors of Indian street food. 1

Welcome to Vidya's Cooking Channel, today I'm sharing my childhood favorite breakfast dish Bombay toast.

2

Here are all the ingredients required for this recipe: cardamom, sugar, eggs, milk, and bread.

3

In a mixer jar, add sugar and cardamom, and grind to form a fine powder.

4

Once the sugar is powdered, add some milk and grind further to form a smooth paste.

5

After the milk and sugar have combined well, add the eggs and blend to form an even consistency.

6

Transfer the egg mixture to a flat bowl or plate for dipping the bread slices.

7

Heat an iron tawa on medium flame and season it with some oil and ghee ahead of time.

8

Dip the bread slice in the egg mixture on both sides, ensuring it soaks well.

9

Transfer the soaked bread slice onto the hot tawa.

10

Fry the bread slice for two to three minutes on each side on low to medium flame to prevent it from turning dark.

11

Add more ghee while frying to enhance flavor.

12

Once golden brown on both sides, remove from the tawa and serve.
