Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until elastic.
Cover the dough with a cloth and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
Punch down the dough and shape it into small balls.
Heat oil in a deep skillet over medium heat until shimmering.
Fry the dough balls in batches until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes per side.
Remove from oil and drain on paper towels.
Serve warm, optionally dusted with powdered sugar.
