Instructions

  1. 1Peel and slice the mango into thin strips.
  2. 2Combine sugar, water, lemon juice, and salt in a saucepan.
  3. 3Heat the mixture over medium heat until the sugar dissolves completely.
  4. 4Add the mango slices to the saucepan and stir gently to coat them in the syrup.
  5. 5Simmer the mango in the syrup for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  6. 6Remove the saucepan from heat and let the mango cool in the syrup for 15 minutes.
  7. 7Transfer the mango slices to a wire rack to drain excess syrup.
  8. 8Allow the mango to air dry for several hours until it becomes sticky but not wet.

  • โ—2 cups granulated sugar
  • โ—1 cup water
  • โ—1/2 cup granulated sugar (for coating)

Instructions

  1. 1Wash the oranges thoroughly to remove any wax or pesticides.
  2. 2Cut the oranges into quarters and remove the flesh, leaving the peel intact.
  3. 3Slice the orange peels into thin strips, about 1/4 inch wide.
  4. 4In a saucepan, combine 1 cup of water and 2 cups of sugar. Heat over medium heat until the sugar dissolves completely.
  5. 5Add the orange peel strips to the sugar syrup and bring to a simmer.
  6. 6Reduce the heat to low and let the peels simmer for about 45 minutes, or until they become translucent.
  7. 7Remove the peels from the syrup and place them on a wire rack to cool for about 30 minutes.
  8. 8While the peels are still sticky, roll them in the remaining 1/2 cup of granulated sugar to coat.
  9. 9Place the coated peels back on the wire rack to dry for another 1-2 hours.
  10. 10Store the candied orange peels in an airtight container.
