Cultural Context
The Party Sub, also known as a hoagie or sub sandwich, has roots in Italian-American communities, where it became a popular choice for gatherings and celebrations. This hearty sandwich is often filled with a variety of meats, cheeses, and fresh vegetables, making it a crowd-pleaser at parties and picnics. Today, variations abound, with many regions adding their own local ingredients, but the essence of a shared, satisfying meal remains.
In a large bowl, mix the mayonnaise, sriracha, oil, red wine vinegar and Italian seasoning.
Whisk until combined, then add the sliced red onion and lettuce. Toss until the lettuce and onions are all coated in the sauce. Set the salad aside.
Split the loaf of Italian bread down the center horizontally, but don't cut all the way through.
On one side of the bread, place the sliced turkey, turkey pastrami and tomatoes. Season the tomatoes with salt and pepper.
On the other side of the bread, place the pepperoni and the provolone cheese.
Place the reserved salad on top of the tomatoes and close it up. Slice the sandwich into 4-6 slices and secure with frilled toothpicks if needed. Serve immediately.
