Homemade Black Licorice

Grease parchment paper with butter.

Line a 5x9 loaf pan with the greased parchment paper.

Add 4 tblsp butter to a 2 quart boiling pan.

Add 1/2 cup sugar to the pan.

Add 1/4 cup dark corn syrup to the pan.

Add 1/2 cup condensed milk to the pan.

Add 2 tblsp molasses to the pan.

Add a pinch of salt to the mixture.

Heat the mixture to 240 degrees while mixing thoroughly.

Add 1/2 cup sifted flour to the mixture.

Mix thoroughly until combined.

Add 1/2 tblsp anise extract to the mixture.

Add 1 tsp black food dye to the mixture.

Mix thoroughly until the color is even.

Pour the candy mixture into the prepared loaf pan.

Place the loaf pan in the refrigerator for at least 1/2 hour to set.

Once set, cut into small slices and braid the pieces together.
