Frisian Gingerbread

Originating from the Friesland region in the Netherlands, Frisian Gingerbread is a traditional treat often enjoyed during festive occasions. Its rich blend of spices and sweet ingredients reflects the region's culinary heritage. Today, it remains a beloved holiday favorite, often shared among family and friends.

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
In a large bowl, mix together the flour, baking soda, spices, and salt.
In a separate bowl, cream together the butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
Add the honey and eggs to the butter mixture, mixing until well combined.
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until a dough forms.
Fold in the milk, almonds, and candied orange peel until evenly distributed.
Transfer the dough to a greased baking pan, spreading it evenly.
Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
Remove from the oven and let cool in the pan for 10 minutes.
Turn out onto a wire rack to cool completely.
Once cooled, dust with powdered sugar before serving.
