Toast all ingredients except dates until light brown, stirring continuously to prevent burning.
Grind all toasted ingredients into a fine powder at a mill or using a powerful blender.
Sift the ground mixture to remove chaff and achieve a smooth powder.
To prepare the cereal, mix the powder with cold water to desired thickness.
Pour the mixture into boiling water and stir continuously for about a minute until thickened.
Add milk to the prepared cereal before serving.
