Originating from the classic hamburger, it has evolved into a beloved staple across the nation, often customized with various toppings and sauces. Today, it enjoys global popularity, with many variations reflecting local tastes and ingredients.
Start by making the sauce for the burger.
In a bowl, combine 1/2 cup of whole egg mayonnaise and 1/2 cup of sour cream.
Add 1 tablespoon of prepared yellow mustard, 1 teaspoon of distilled white vinegar, 1 teaspoon of onion powder, 1 teaspoon of garlic powder, and 1 teaspoon of paprika to the bowl.
Mix in 3 teaspoons of sweet pickle relish and 2 teaspoons of white granulated sugar.
Add 1/2 teaspoon of liquid smoke to the mixture and stir until well combined.
Cover the sauce and refrigerate for a few hours to let the flavors meld.
Prepare the burger patty using a cutting ring for shaping.
Use ground beef (80/20 blend of top round and chuck) and fill the cutting ring halfway, tamping down the edges.
Place the formed patty in the fridge to chill before cooking.
Preheat the grill with a ballistic griddle on top, using a small amount of charcoal on the edges.
Toast the sesame seed buns lightly on the griddle.
Season the beef patty with kosher salt before cooking.
Cook the patty on the grill until moisture appears on the top, then flip it over.
After flipping, season the cooked side with black pepper.
Once the patty is done, place it on the bottom bun and add Swiss cheese on top.
Add two slices of tomato, followed by roughly chopped iceberg lettuce and onion on top of the cheese.
Spread the prepared sauce on the top bun and crown the burger.
