Today, quesitos are a staple in bakeries across the island and are cherished by those who seek a taste of home.

Prepare the filling by adding cream cheese, powdered sugar, and a pinch of salt to a mixing bowl and mix until smooth.
Start with cold cream cheese to avoid a liquidy mixture.
Transfer the filling to a piping bag or use a spoon if you don't have one.
Roll out a prepackaged sheet of Pepperidge Farms frozen puff pastry on a lightly floured surface until it's a rectangle approximately 15 inches long by 10 inches wide.
Cut the rolled pastry into six equal pieces, approximately 5 inches by 5 inches.
Make an egg wash by beating 1 egg white in a bowl until frothy.
Using the piping bag, add a generous amount of filling diagonally down the middle of each pastry square.
Apply egg wash to the two corners of the pastry squares that will be folded over the filling.
Fold one corner over the filling and press it into the opposite side, then fold the other corner over and tuck it underneath the pastry.
Transfer the folded pastries to a tray lined with parchment paper and lightly floured.
For guava quesitos, cut pieces of guava paste approximately 6 inches long and half an inch wide, and place them on top of the cream cheese filling before folding the pastry.
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
Bake the quesitos for 20 minutes, switching trays halfway through if baking two trays.
Prepare a glaze by mixing the remaining egg wash with 1 tablespoon of honey.
Brush the tops of the baked quesitos with the honey glaze and sprinkle with turbinado sugar.
Bake the quesitos for an additional 10 minutes, switching trays halfway through.
Transfer the baked quesitos to a cooling rack.
