Malay 'Putu Piring', Steamed Rice Cake with Coconut. Singapore Street Food

Soak rice flour in water for 30 minutes.

Mix rice flour with coconut milk and salt until smooth.

Prepare gula melaka by grating it into small pieces.

Steam desiccated coconut for 5 minutes and set aside.

Grease small bowls with coconut oil or line with banana leaves.

Add a layer of rice flour mixture to the bottom of each bowl.

Place a small amount of gula melaka in the center of each bowl.

Cover the gula melaka with another layer of rice flour mixture.

Steam the bowls for 10-15 minutes until cooked through.

Remove from steamer and let cool slightly.

Carefully unmold the putu piring onto a plate.

Sprinkle steamed desiccated coconut on top before serving.

Serve warm as a snack or dessert.
