Black Bean Burger

1 can black beans, rinsed and drained
1 cup quick oats
3/4 cup medium salsa
1 tablespoon liquid from chipotle chilies
1 teaspoon chili powder
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon cumin

Mash the rinsed and drained black beans using a potato masher until mostly smooth with few whole beans visible.

Add 1 cup of quick oats to the mashed black beans.

Pour in 3/4 cup of medium salsa.

Add 1 tablespoon of liquid from chipotle chilies to the mixture.

Stir in 1 teaspoon of chili powder, 1/2 teaspoon of garlic powder, and 1/2 teaspoon of cumin.

Mix all ingredients together until well incorporated.

Refrigerate the mixture for about 15 minutes to firm it up before forming patties.

Use a half cup measuring cup to portion out the mixture onto a parchment-lined cookie sheet.

Flatten each portion with the bottom of the measuring cup to form burger patties.

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit and bake the patties for 25 to 30 minutes, or air fry for about 10 minutes after preheating.

Optionally, cook the patties in a hot cast-iron skillet or on a grill with aluminum foil to prevent sticking.

Serve the cooked burger on a whole-grain bun with toppings like avocado, tomato, and lettuce.
