Black Bean Burger

OtherXXmain
30 min
medium
4 servings
Servings4
14 ounces canned black beans
13.5 ounces canned mushrooms
1 cup gluten-free rolled oats
1/2 cup raw almonds
1 tablespoon tamari or soy sauce
1 tablespoon mild paprika powder
1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika powder
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1/4 teaspoon fine salt
1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper
Avocado oil (or preferred oil with a high smoke point)
4 hamburger buns (gluten-free if needed)
Veggie burger sauce
Toppings
1

Add the almonds to a food processor with an S-blade and pulse until roughly crushed.

2

Drain and rinse the black beans and mushrooms. Add them to the food processor with the oats, tamari, and dry spices. Blend until just combined, ensuring the mixture is not smooth to prevent mushiness.

3

Shape about 5-6 tablespoons of burger mixture into balls, then gently press them into burger patties.

4

Optionally freeze the patties for 1 hour to improve texture and firmness.

5

To cook in a pan, preheat a heavy-bottomed pan or skillet with oil. Once hot, add the burgers and cook for 2 minutes per side over medium-high heat, then reduce to medium heat and cook for another 5 minutes per side.

6

To cook on the grill, preheat the grill to 475-500°F (240-260°C), grease the grates, place the patties on the grill, and cook for 5-7 minutes per side until firm and grill marks appear.
