Preheat oven to 350°F.
In a mixer bowl, beat 4 eggs on high for about 1 minute.
Slowly pour in 1 cup sugar while mixing and beat for about 6 minutes until pale.
Add 1 teaspoon vanilla extract and 1 cup sifted flour, folding gently until no flour remains.
Prepare a cake pan by buttering it and lining the bottom with parchment paper.
Pour equal amounts of cake batter into the pan and bake for about 23 minutes, checking with a toothpick for doneness.
Beat 1 cup heavy whipping cream until stiff peaks form and refrigerate.
In the same bowl, beat 8 ounces cream cheese with 1/2 cup sugar until creamy.
Fold the whipped cream into the cream cheese mixture and refrigerate until ready to use.
Once the cake is baked and cooled, slice it in half.
Prepare the syrup by mixing strong coffee with 1/2 cup sugar until dissolved.
Brush the coffee syrup generously over the cake layers.
Layer the soaked cake with the cream mixture and sprinkle cocoa powder in between layers.
Repeat the layering process until all ingredients are used, finishing with cream on top.
Refrigerate the assembled cake for about 2 hours before serving.
