Traditionally baked in a heavy pot, this method creates a steamy environment that yields a beautifully crusty exterior and soft interior. Today, this bread has gained popularity worldwide, often made with various flours and flavors to suit different tastes.

Add warm water to a bowl.
Add a little bit of sugar and yeast to the warm water.
Let the yeast bloom for a few minutes.
Add seasoning (optional) for flavor.
Add flour to the mixture.
Knead the dough by hand, oiling your hands to prevent sticking.
Mix until combined, avoiding overworking the dough and ensuring no dry patches remain.
Oil the bowl where the dough will rise.
Cover the bowl and let the dough rise on the counter for 2 hours.
Preheat the oven to 450 degrees Fahrenheit with the Dutch oven (base and lid) inside for 45 minutes.
Take the hot Dutch oven out of the oven and quickly place a little flour inside.
Shape and roll out the bread dough, then place it in the Dutch oven.
Score the top of the loaf if desired.
Bake with the lid on for 30 minutes, then remove the lid and bake for an additional 15 minutes.
