Paprika can add flavor without the heat of black pepper.

1

Start with about a pound of shrimp with the shell on, and some without the shell for flavor.

2

Add about a teaspoon of salt and a teaspoon of black pepper to the shrimp.

3

Add about half a cup of chopped cilantro, a teaspoon of grated ginger, one scallion, four cloves of minced garlic, and half of a small chopped onion.

4

Add about half a cup of bell peppers (green bell peppers can be used) and two tablespoons of ketchup to the mixture.

5

Mix everything together and let it sit for about 20 to 30 minutes for the flavors to meld.

6

After marinating, add a little vegetable oil to a pot and heat it up.

7

Dump the shrimp mixture into the pot, including the remaining seasoning from the bowl.

8

Add about one and a half cups of water to the pot to keep the flavors and juices.

9

Cover the pot and let it cook on medium heat for about five minutes.

10

After five minutes, add the half cup of ketchup to the pot and mix well.

11

Cook uncovered for about ten minutes to allow the sauce to thicken.

12

If desired, add a cornstarch and water mixture to thicken the sauce further, but the creator prefers it as is for pouring over rice or lo mein.
