Whole wheat flour offers more nutrients, while all-purpose flour is often less expensive.
Put sugar in the middle of the flour and salt on the side.
Mix everything together, starting with a wooden spoon.
Use hands to combine the flour and water until a dough forms, about 10-15 minutes.
Knead the dough by hand for another 10 minutes until elastic.
Place the dough in a bowl and cover with plastic wrap.
Let the dough rise for about 2 hours in a warm place, using a bowl of warm water underneath to create steam.
After rising, divide the dough into two pieces.
Shape each piece into long baguette forms, pressing and folding as necessary.
Sprinkle cornmeal on the baking surface before placing the baguettes.
Score the tops of the baguettes with a knife.
Cover the baguettes with a cloth and let them rise for another hour.
Preheat the oven to 170 degrees Celsius.
Bake the baguettes for about 20 minutes until golden brown.
Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before slicing.
