Cover the dough with a cloth and let it rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
Punch down the dough and roll it out on a floured surface to about 1/2 inch thickness.
Cut the dough into circles or desired shapes using a cutter.
Heat oil in a deep pan over medium heat until shimmering.
Fry the beignets in batches until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side.
Remove from oil and drain on paper towels.
Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
