Their popularity has led to numerous variations, including different types of chocolate and add-ins like nuts or dried fruit.

In a big bowl, add all the dry ingredients together: 3 cups of all-purpose flour, 1 teaspoon of baking soda, 1/2 teaspoon of baking powder, and 1/2 teaspoon of salt.
Mix all the dry ingredients together until combined.
Set the bowl of dry ingredients aside.
In another bowl, add 230 grams of softened butter, 1 cup of white sugar, and 1 cup of brown sugar.
Cream together the butter and sugars until combined, scraping down the sides if needed.
Crack in 2 large eggs and add 2 teaspoons of pure vanilla extract.
Beat the eggs and vanilla until fluffy.
Add the dry ingredients in batches until combined.

To freeze the cookie dough, roll it into balls and place them on a baking sheet. Freeze for about 30 minutes, then transfer to an airtight container and freeze for up to two months.
When baking, preheat the oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit (190 degrees Celsius).
Add 1 cup of chocolate chips and optionally, 1 cup of chocolate chunks to the dough.
Roll 2 to 3 tablespoons of dough at a time into balls and place them evenly spaced on prepared cookie sheets.
Add some extra chocolate chips on top of the cookie dough balls.
Bake the cookies in the preheated oven for about 8 to 10 minutes, taking them out when they're just barely starting to turn brown.
Let the cookies sit on the baking pan for 2 minutes before removing them to a cooling rack.
Store the cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days or in the freezer for up to 2 months.
