1 cup black lentils
2 tablespoons oil
1 chopped onion
1 teaspoon cumin
1 chopped tomato
1 teaspoon ginger-garlic paste
turmeric powder
chili powder
garam masala
1 cup washed basmati rice
2.5 cups water

Wash 1 cup black lentils thoroughly and soak for 30 minutes.

Heat 2 tablespoons of oil in a pot.

Add 1 chopped onion and sauté until golden brown.

Add 1 teaspoon cumin and stir.

Add 1 chopped tomato, 1 teaspoon ginger-garlic paste, turmeric powder, chili powder, and garam masala.

Cook until the tomato is soft.

Drain the water from the lentils and add them to the pot, mixing well.

Add 1 cup washed basmati rice to the pot.

Pour in 2.5 cups of water and add salt to taste.
