1

Pour 1 liter of milk into a saucepan and stir frequently to prevent burning.

2

Once the milk is boiling, add 1 cup of medium grain rice and stir.

3

Cook the rice in the milk on low heat for about 1 hour, stirring occasionally.

4

After 1 hour, add 0.78 cups of sugar and 1 tablespoon of vanilla sugar, and stir for another 30 minutes until well blended.

5

Transfer the cooked rice mixture to a bowl and set aside.

6

To make the custard, pour 0.5 cup of milk into a separate pan on low heat.

7

Add 0.25 cup of sugar, 3 teaspoons of cornstarch, and 1 whole egg to the milk.

8

Stir the custard mixture until it thickens, then pour it into the rice and mix well.

9

Cover the rice and custard mixture with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 1-2 hours or ideally 24 hours.

10

For the dough, mix 0.5 cup of flour, 0.5 tablespoon of salt, 0.25 cup of sugar, and 0.25 teaspoon of baking powder in a bowl.

11

Add 0.25 cup of room temperature butter and 1 whole egg to the dry ingredients and knead the dough until well combined.

12

Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 20 minutes.

13

After 20 minutes, sprinkle flour on the countertop and flatten the dough with your hands and a rolling pin.

14

Lay the flattened dough into a 9-inch round glass pie plate, covering the bottom and edges.

15

Add 1 whole egg to the chilled rice mixture and mix well before pouring it into the pie plate.

16

Spread the rice mixture evenly in the pie plate.

17

For a golden color, separate the yolk from the white of an egg and brush the yolk over the top of the rice mixture.

18

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).

19

Bake the tart for about 40 minutes or until the top is golden.

20

Let the tart cool down to room temperature before serving.
