1 teaspoon ginger-garlic paste
1 tablespoon red chili powder
1 tablespoon ghee
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon turmeric
water
5-6 garlic cloves
2 whole red chilies
1 green chili
1 teaspoon cumin seeds
chopped coriander
chopped ginger

Wash 1 cup of moong dal and 1 cup of masoor dal in a bowl and strain the water.

In a medium pot on medium flame, add water and all the spices including salt, turmeric, and red chili powder, and wait for it to boil.

Once boiling, add the washed moong and masoor dal to the pot.

Stir the dal and cover it, checking every 15 minutes for doneness.

After about 10 minutes, check the consistency of the dal and adjust if necessary.

Once the dal is cooked to the desired consistency, turn off the heat.

In another pan, add a little oil and 5-6 finely chopped garlic cloves, along with 2 whole red chilies and 1 teaspoon of cumin seeds to prepare the tempering.

Once the tempering is ready, pour it over the cooked dal.

Optionally, add chopped coriander and ginger at this stage.

Serve the dal with rice, pickles, and tomato chutney, or with roti, paratha, or naan.
