Parathas are a popular Indian flatbread, often stuffed with various fillings. Beetroot adds a unique flavor and vibrant color.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup water (or as needed)
  • 1 cup grated beetroot
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped onion
  • 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1/2 tsp garam masala
  • 1/2 tsp red chili powder
  • 2 tbsp chopped fresh coriander
  • 2 tbsp oil (for cooking)

Instructions

  1. 1In a mixing bowl, combine whole wheat flour and salt. Gradually add water and knead to form a soft dough. Cover and let it rest for 30 minutes.
  2. 2In another bowl, mix grated beetroot, chopped onion, cumin seeds, garam masala, red chili powder, and fresh coriander. Mix well to combine.
  3. 3Divide the dough into equal portions and roll each portion into a small ball.
  4. 4Take one ball of dough and flatten it slightly. Roll it out into a small circle on a floured surface.
  5. 5Place a spoonful of the beetroot mixture in the center of the rolled dough circle.
  6. 6Fold the edges of the dough over the filling to seal it completely, forming a stuffed ball.
  7. 7Gently flatten the stuffed ball and roll it out into a larger circle, being careful not to let the filling escape.
  8. 8Heat a tawa or skillet over medium heat. Place the rolled paratha on the hot tawa and cook for 1-2 minutes until small bubbles form.
  9. 9Flip the paratha and brush with a little oil. Cook for another 1-2 minutes until golden brown and cooked through.
  10. 10Repeat the process with the remaining dough and filling.
  11. 11Serve hot with yogurt or pickle.
