Brew espresso and let it cool to room temperature.
In a mixing bowl, combine mascarpone cheese, sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth.
In another bowl, whip heavy cream until stiff peaks form.
Gently fold whipped cream into the mascarpone mixture until well combined.
Dip ladyfingers briefly in cooled espresso mixed with coffee liqueur.
Layer half of the dipped ladyfingers in the bottom of a trifle dish.
Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over the ladyfingers.
Sprinkle a layer of cocoa powder over the mascarpone.
Grate dark chocolate over the cocoa layer.
Repeat the layers with the remaining ladyfingers, mascarpone mixture, cocoa, and dark chocolate.
Top with whipped cream and chocolate shavings.
Chill in the refrigerator for at least 4 hours before serving.
Garnish with coffee beans before serving.
