1 cup tamarind pulp
1 tomato, diced
2 green chilies, chopped
1 tsp black peppercorns
1 inch ginger
1 tsp cumin seeds
some sprig of curry leaves
1/4 tsp asafoetida
1 tsp turmeric powder
salt as per taste
1 tbsp oil
2-3 dried red chilies
2 tsp rasam powder
coriander leaves, chopped
3 cups water

Soak tamarind in hot water and extract pulp, approximately 1 cup.

Add diced tomato to the pan with the tamarind pulp.

Lower the gas flame and mash the tomatoes.

Add 1 more cup of water and let it boil to remove the rawness of the tamarind.

Crush 2 green chilies, 1 tsp black peppercorns, 1 inch ginger, and some curry leaves together.

Add 1 tsp cumin seeds, chopped coriander leaves, and 1/4 tsp asafoetida to the crushed mixture and crush again.

Add the masala mixture to the boiling tamarind and tomato mixture.

Add 1 tsp turmeric powder and salt to taste, stir well, and let it come to a boil.

For tempering, heat 1 tbsp oil, add 1 tsp mustard seeds, 2-3 dried red chilies, and curry leaves, and stir.

Add 2 tsp rasam powder and chopped coriander leaves to the rasam and mix well.
