Prepare the whole chicken by seasoning it with salt, paprika, turmeric, black pepper, and orange food color or saffron.

In a large pot, heat the oil and sauté the chopped onion until golden brown.

Add the whole black pepper, cloves, green cardamom, green chilli, and whole garlic to the pot and sauté for a few more minutes.

Add the seasoned chicken to the pot and brown it on all sides.

Add the rice to the pot along with water according to the rice cooking instructions and bring to a boil.

Reduce the heat, cover, and simmer until the rice is cooked and the chicken is tender.
