2 cups flour
2 tablespoons sugar
1 tablespoon yeast

a pinch of salt
date syrup (or syrup made of 2 cups sugar and 1.5 cups water with lemon zest and saffron)

Add warm water to a bowl.

Add 1 tablespoon of yeast, 2 tablespoons of sugar, a pinch of salt, and ground saffron to the warm water.

Add 2 cups of flour to the mixture and stir until combined.

Cover the mixture and let it rise in a warm place for 15 to 20 minutes until it has doubled in size.

Once risen, the mixture will have a yellow color due to the saffron.

Heat a deep pan with oil for frying.

Wet your hands with water to prevent sticking, then take a portion of the dough and drop it into the hot oil.

Fry until golden brown, then remove and drain on paper towels.

For serving, drizzle with date syrup or a syrup made from 2 cups of sugar and 1.5 cups of water boiled with lemon zest and saffron.
