Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F).
Peel and slice the potatoes thinly.
Slice the onions thinly.
Grease a baking dish with butter.
Layer half of the potatoes in the baking dish.
Sprinkle half of the onions over the potatoes.
Distribute half of the anchovy fillets on top.
Add the remaining potatoes in another layer.
Top with the rest of the onions and anchovies.
Pour the heavy cream and milk mixture evenly over the layers.
Sprinkle with bread crumbs, salt, and black pepper.
Dot with small pieces of butter on top.
Bake in the oven for 45-60 minutes until golden and bubbly.
Let cool slightly before serving.
