Traditionally made with tenderized beef, it's coated in seasoned flour and fried until crispy, often served with creamy gravy. This dish is a comfort food favorite, embodying the spirit of home cooking, and has been embraced across the United States with various regional adaptations.

Add 1 cup of flour to a bowl and mix in 1 teaspoon of garlic powder, 1 teaspoon of onion powder, and 1 teaspoon of black pepper.
Reserve 5 tablespoons of the seasoned flour for making gravy.
Coat 1.5 pounds of cube steaks generously in the seasoned flour.
Heat 0.5 cup of bacon grease (or vegetable oil) in a Dutch oven over medium to medium-high heat.
Fry the cube steaks in batches for about 2 to 5 minutes on each side until they have a good sear.
Remove the steaks and set aside to cook through later in the oven.
Add 5 tablespoons of vegetable oil to the pan and heat over medium heat.
Add the reserved 5 tablespoons of flour to the oil to make a roux, cooking for 2 to 5 minutes until it smells nutty.
Slowly whisk in 3.5 cups of beef stock, scraping the bottom of the pan to incorporate the flavors.
Bring the gravy to a simmer and check for thickness.
Return the cube steaks to the gravy, ensuring they are well covered.
Transfer the mixture to a baking dish, cover with aluminum foil, and bake at 350 degrees for 2 hours.
