Canned tuna is more affordable and easier to find.

Potato dumplings can be less expensive and still satisfying.
Boil water in a large pot and add washed green bananas and cut plantains with a little oil and salt.
Boil until the skin of the bananas and plantains starts to bust open, then remove from heat and set aside.
In a separate pot, boil saltfish in water for about 5 minutes, then change the water and boil again for another 5 minutes to remove excess salt.
Let the saltfish cool, then flake it into pieces using hands or a fork.
In a large bowl, mix a few cups of flour with about a teaspoon of salt.
Gradually add warm water to the flour mixture, kneading until a smooth dough forms, about 4-5 minutes.
Break the dough into pieces and shape into dumplings, either round or rolled.
Boil water in a pot and add the dumplings, cooking for 10-15 minutes until firm.
In a hot pot, add about a quarter cup of vegetable oil and heat.
Sauté chopped red onion and yellow bell pepper for about 2 minutes.
Add shredded cabbage, shredded carrots, and diced tomato to the pot and stir.
Add the flaked saltfish, black pepper, onion powder, and garlic powder, mixing well.
Cover and let the mixture cook on low heat for about 3 minutes.
Plate the dish by slicing the boiled plantains and green bananas, then adding the saltfish mixture on top.
