1 and 1/2 tablespoons avocado oil
1 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)

green plantains

🥗Healthier: zucchini

💰Cheaper: potatoes

Zucchini is lower in calories and potatoes are more budget-friendly.

1

Cut both ends of the green plantains with a knife.

2

Make several slits lengthwise from top to bottom, barely touching the flesh.

3

Peel the green plantains using your hands.

4

Cut the plantains into 1-inch round slices.

5

Rinse the plantain slices and place them on a paper towel to absorb excess water.

6

Pat dry the plantain slices with another paper towel.

7

Pour 1 and 1/2 tablespoons of avocado oil into a bowl and add 1 teaspoon of garlic powder (optional).

8

Coat the plantains completely with the garlic oil mixture and let them stand for 5 to 10 minutes.

9

Preheat the air fryer by attaching the diffuser to the bottom of the basket and closing the lid.

10

Select the air crisp program, set the temperature to 360°F, and the time to 5 minutes to preheat the unit.

11

After preheating, open the lid and arrange the plantain slices in a single layer in the basket.

12

Change the temperature to 330°F and the time to 10 minutes for air frying the plantains.

13

After 10 minutes, open the lid and check the plantains for tenderness; they should be golden and tender.

14

Remove the plantains from the basket and place them on a plate.

15

Flatten each air-fried plantain slice using a tostonera or the bottom of a heavy drinking glass.

16

Brush the flattened plantains lightly with avocado oil on top and sprinkle with more garlic powder (optional).

17

Turn the flattened plantains over and repeat the brushing process.

18

Place at least half of the tostones in a single layer inside the air fryer basket for the second fry.

19

Select the air crisp program, set the temperature to 350°F, and the time to 8 minutes for the second fry.

20

After 8 minutes, open the lid and check the tostones for crispiness; they should be golden and crispy on both sides.

21

Remove the first batch of tostones from the basket and place them on a plate.

22

Repeat the air frying process with the second batch of tostones, ensuring they are in a single layer in the basket.

23

After 8 minutes, open the lid and check the second batch for crispiness; remove them from the basket and place them with the first batch.
