Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
Grease a baking dish with butter.
Mix semolina, sugar, yogurt, and melted butter in a bowl until combined.
Add baking powder and mix until smooth.
Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish and spread evenly.
Score the top into diamond shapes with a knife.
Place an almond in the center of each diamond.
Bake for 30-35 minutes until golden brown.
While baking, combine sugar, water, lemon juice, and rose water in a saucepan.
Bring the syrup to a boil, then simmer for 10 minutes until slightly thickened.
Remove the basbousa from the oven and pour the syrup evenly over it while hot.
Let it cool for at least 30 minutes before serving.
