toor dal

🥗Healthier: moong dal

💰Cheaper: chana dal

Moong dal is lighter and easier to digest, while chana dal is often more affordable.

fresh tomatoes

🥗Healthier: canned tomatoes

💰Cheaper: substitute with tomato puree

Canned tomatoes save prep time and are often cheaper.

green chilies

🥗Healthier: jalapeños

💰Cheaper: bell peppers

Jalapeños provide heat, while bell peppers add sweetness without spice.

fresh coriander

🥗Healthier: parsley

💰Cheaper: dried coriander

Parsley can be a milder alternative, and dried coriander is more shelf-stable.
