Jamaican Jerk Fish

Cultural Context

Jamaican jerk fish is a vibrant dish that hails from the island's rich culinary heritage, influenced by the Maroons who developed this method of cooking to preserve meat in the heat of the tropics. The signature blend of spices, known as jerk seasoning, includes ingredients like allspice and Scotch bonnet peppers, creating a unique flavor profile that is both spicy and aromatic. Today, jerk fish is celebrated not only in Jamaica but also around the world, often enjoyed at barbecues and festive gatherings, embodying the spirit of Caribbean cuisine.
