Welcome to the garlic knots recipe.
Gather the ingredients for the dough: 3.5 cups of all-purpose flour, 1 packet of active dry yeast, 1 cup of warm water, 2 teaspoons of olive oil, 1 tablespoon of sugar, and 1 teaspoon of salt.
Dissolve the sugar in 1 cup of warm water.
Sprinkle 1 packet of active dry yeast over the warm water and let it sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
In a large mixing bowl, combine 3.5 cups of all-purpose flour with 1 teaspoon of salt.
Create a well in the center of the flour and pour in the yeast mixture and 2 tablespoons of olive oil.
Stir until the dough begins to come together.
Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic, adding more flour if too sticky.
Place the kneaded dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour until doubled in size.
Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Punch down the risen dough and turn it out onto a floured surface.
Roll the dough into a rectangle about 1/2 inch thick and cut into strips about 1 inch wide.
Take each strip and tie it into a knot, placing them on the prepared baking sheet.
In a small bowl, combine 6 tablespoons of melted unsalted butter with 4 cloves of minced garlic, 2 tablespoons of chopped parsley, and 1/4 teaspoon of salt.
Brush the garlic butter mixture generously over each knot.
Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown and fragrant.
Remove the knots from the oven and brush any remaining garlic butter over the top.
Sprinkle grated Parmesan cheese on the knots while still warm if desired.
Serve the garlic knots warm.
