Yaniqueque, a beloved Dominican snack, has roots in the coastal regions where it was traditionally sold by street vendors. These crispy fritters are often enjoyed by locals with a side of fresh fruit or as a quick breakfast. Today, yaniqueque is popular not only in the Dominican Republic but also among Caribbean communities worldwide, celebrated for its simplicity and delightful crunch.

Almond milk is lower in calories and lactose-free.
vegetable oil

💰Cheaper: canola oil
Olive oil is healthier, while canola is often cheaper.
Add flour, vegetable oil, salt, and baking powder to a large bowl.
Combine all the ingredients in the bowl.
Add warm water little by little to the mixture.
Knead the dough until it comes together and is soft.
If the dough is too dry, sprinkle a little more water to help it come together.
Cover the dough and let it rest for about 10 minutes.
After resting, divide the dough into two halves, then divide one half into three pieces.
Flatten one piece of dough and roll it out thinly using a rolling pin or a bottle.
Create a slit in the middle of the rolled-out dough.
Heat oil in a skillet over medium-high heat for frying.
Fry the yaniqueque for about 4 minutes on one side or until the edges turn golden brown, then flip and fry for about 3 minutes on the other side.
Check if the oil is not bubbling aggressively to know when to flip the yaniqueque.
Remove the yaniqueque from the oil when done and let drain on paper towels.
