Start by boiling 6-8 cups of vegetable broth or water.

Cut salt pork into cubes and fry in a pan to make scrunch ins.

Soak salt beef overnight if using, then drain and boil for at least an hour before adding to the stew.

Cut the skin off the fresh cod, then cut the fish into chunks.

Remove scrunch ins from the pan and drain excess fat.

Add chopped onions to the pan and fry until they start to caramelize.

Add a pinch of black pepper to the onions while frying.

Prepare vegetables (turnip, carrot, parsnip, potato) by cutting them into chunks and soaking them overnight in cold water.

Once the onions are caramelized, add the drained vegetables to the boiling pot.

Cook the vegetables for at least 20 minutes until soft before adding the fish.
