In a pan, add 2 cups (500 ml) of full-fat milk and heat it until warm.
In a separate bowl, take 5-6 tablespoons of milk from the pan and set it aside for later use.
Add 3 tablespoons of sugar to the warm milk in the pan, along with 1/2 teaspoon of cardamom powder and 10-12 strands of saffron. Stir to combine.
Let the milk mixture heat on medium flame until warm.
In the bowl with the reserved milk, add 2 tablespoons of vanilla custard powder and mix well to create a custard mixture.
Once the milk in the pan is warm, lower the flame and add the custard mixture while stirring continuously.
Cook the mixture on low-medium flame until it thickens and bubbles start to form, about 5 minutes, stirring constantly to prevent sticking.
Once thickened, set the mixture aside to cool.
Trim the edges off 8 slices of white bread and prepare to layer them in a dish.
In a rectangular glass dish, layer the bread slices, ensuring they fit according to the size of the dish.
Pour half of the custard mixture over the bread slices, soaking them well.
Add a generous amount of desiccated coconut on top of the custard layer.
Repeat the layering with another set of bread slices and pour the remaining custard mixture over them.
Set the dish aside to prepare the final layer.
Take 1 cup (250 ml) of fresh cream and whip it until slightly fluffy using a hand whisk or electric whisk, about 2-3 minutes.
Add 1/4 cup of condensed milk to the whipped cream and mix until combined and slightly fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.
Pour the whipped cream mixture over the layered bread and custard in the dish.
Top with more desiccated coconut for garnish.
Refrigerate the dessert for 1-2 hours to set before serving.
Once set, cut into slices and serve cold.
